The parrucë mosque (Area)

From its name, you can understand that it’s located in one of the most historical neighbourhoods of the city of Shkodra, in Parrucë. The mosque was founded in 1937 and at the time, it was considered one of the most beautiful mosques in the country. It was built on the site of an old mosque, which was not identified for a particular style. The Parrucë Mosque had 2 minarets almost 40 meters long, 3 entrances and 3 beautiful halls that were generally used for women attending religious ceremonies. Its interior was decorated by the Karini brothers and a group of Italian craftsmen, while the artist Shefqet Kraja volunteered to decorate the minarets with Arabic calligraphy. By the end of 1967, the Parrucë Mosque joined the high number of cult objects that were destroyed by communist anti-religious ideology. In the courtyard of the mosque, was the tomb of Pasha of Shkodra in the years 1768-1774, of Mehmet Pashë (The Elder). Parruca Mosque was rebuilt in 2006, to be inaugurated in 2007.
