Library (Area)
The public library of our city was founded in 1931 in a simple bar in the center of the city that was called "Milet Bahçe" by Shkodran people. The initial book fund of this library was financed by the Municipality of Shkodra itself. The first books of this library bear the seal of the then Municipality. The creation of this library was the fruit of a long-standing tradition of our city, a tradition that began in the Middle Ages, then continued with the Bogdani library, and that of the Mufti of Tabake. Important libraries of Shkodra have also been those of religious institutions such as the library of the Nalte Madrasa near the Castle, the precious libraries of the Jesuit fathers (1858) and the Franciscan ones (1875).
The creation (Area)
The creation of the library of the Literary Commission in Shkodër in 1917 should be considered as the cradle of the creation of the first Albanian public library. In 1921, this library transferred to Tirana would become the core of the newly established National Library. In the long history of the library traditions of the city of Shkodra, the libraries of cultural societies and private ones have played an important role. In 1945, with the closure of religious institutions and social organizations, part of their library funds were transferred to the public library. We cannot leave without mentioning the help of Shkodra citizens for the enrichment of its funds. The city library has moved several times to different buildings. In 1946, it moved to the Old Museum or the English Clock as it is called in the language of the people, and later to the current City Hall building. In 1968, it was moved to the building it is today and was named "Marin Barleti". The library keeps in its funds 15th-16th century books printed in major centers of Europe such as: Germany, Switzerland, Paris, Italy, etc., which are distinguished by the printing technique and their beauty in appearance.
